Andover MA in-home newborn lifestyle portrait session

There's nothing quite like the joy of welcoming a newborn into the world. As a photographer, I have the privilege of capturing those precious first moments and memories for families. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a lovely couple in Andover, MA, who had just welcomed their baby girl into the world. As I had previously photographed their maternity session on Plum Cove Beach in Gloucester, this session was all the more special, seeing the transformation from a family of two to a family of three!

Perhaps the true star of the day, however, was their sweet golden doodle dog, who was clearly enamored with his new little sister. From the way the new parents doted on their little one, to the way the pup snuggled up next to her, it was clear that this family was filled with warmth and love. It was an honor to be able to capture these memories for them, and I know they'll treasure these photos for years to come.

The Simplicity of an In-home Newborn Session / Baby Liam

The weather may be cold and overcast, but that means it’s snuggly baby season! And there’s no better way to capture those early sleepy newborn days than an in-home session where everywhere can kick back on the couch (or bed) and get some snuggles in. It honestly results in the most genuine, heartfelt, and classic images that you will cherish forever.

You don’t need to worry about your home looking Pinterest-worthy; all we need is some good window light and an uncluttered corner of your home to create something simple and beautiful. Bonus points if you can add some pups to the mix!

At home newborn session with Baby E

When I arrived at their home for little E’s newborn session, the thing that struck me was the images of all the “big moments”, framed and up on the walls. Pictures of their wedding, family vacations, big brother’s own newborn pictures. Now here I was, adding to the legacy of their own family’s history. What can be a greater honor than that?

As we were including big brother in our session, we started the session with family pictures in the living room, Grandma included! We captured some really special moments of the entire family together, enjoying their newest little member.

Following that, we went upstairs to the nursery as little E napped in her crib. We got the sweetest images of her swaddled and sleeping.

I just know that these are irreplaceable images that this family will always treasure. Newborns don’t keep, guys!

Precious Baby Girl and Big Brother Newborn Session / Little L

Little L has to be one of my favorite newborn girl sessions to date.  Weeks before our session, I had way too much fun ordering new delicate, girly, sweet headbands and stretch wraps from Etsy.  

During our session, Baby L napped while we played a soothing noise machine and kept the room nice and toasty with a space heater.  Big brother stepped in a bit later to play professional photography assistant and to join in the picture fun with his new sister.  My heart genuinely melted when he started to whisper little songs in her ear as she slept!  Gah! 

Later, during our image reveal session, Baby L's family was in tears over her image slideshow.  And can you blame them? Check our lil' L's newborn session below and don't forget to leave some love below in the comment section!

Baby Girl Newborn Photography | Meghan Alice

One of the reasons I enjoy photographing newborns so much is that it is incredibly calming. You almost NEED it to be to emit those stress-free vibes to keep the babes relaxed.  When I photograph a newborn, I keep the room nice and toasty, I turn on my white noise app on my phone, and we take our time.  It's totally unrushed. We work on the baby's schedule--not our own.  And if the little one decides to poop on your blanket...well, that's okay! It was only a matter of time before it happened anyway!  

For this session, I traveled to Nashua, NH to photograph Meghan in her native element (aka her home.)  The travel time was well worth it after I captured those first few gorgeous images.

It was such a joy to photograph Meghan when she was only eight days young.  Her momma is one of my good friends, and I love charming my friends with gorgeous pictures of their loved ones. Did Mom cry when she first saw the slideshow of Meghan's pictures? What do you think?

Declan | Northshore Massachusetts Newborn Portraits

Welcome to the world, Tater! (I know that you have a big boy name now that you've arrived in the world, but Tater is just fun to say!)

It was incredibly special for me to photograph Declan because I also had the privilege of photographing his big sister Jayne a couple of years ago. Of course, as we were working on keeping Declan sleepy and warm during his shoot, Jayne was keeping a watchful eye over him like a good big sister. Declan is super fortunate--he has THREE big sisters to torture look over him!  Check out some highlights from his gallery, and don't hesitate to add a comment below!

Danvers, MA newborn photography | Penny Pie

I recently (or somewhat recently, as they've been very patient with me!) snapped some pictures of Dave and Melanie's newest arrival, Penny.  Here are a few of the images from that session.

Penny was only a couple of weeks old here (or less, I think!) On this image,  I only did some slight color correction and used Coffeeshop's Baby Powder room--which, by the way, is amazing!

I used a couple different filters for this session. The one I used below is called Dandelion Wine, which I adjusted a bit to get that dreamy muted, slightly pink effect. Look at those lips!!

The other action I used for this session is Buttercream.  Can you see why?

I'm obsessed with that creamy texture and those rich black tones.  I tweaked it to make it even more buttery. Mmm!

Towards the end of the shoot, I shot a few with Mel and Dave. So sweet!
